Abstract

Studying structural genesis of the Mežica lead and zinc deposits situated in the eastern Karavanke Mountains, north of the Periadriatic lineament, we discovered a comprehensive thrust (Peca thrust sheet). The Peca massif was thrusted approksimately toward the east to northeast on to the central part of the Mežica deposits. This caused eastward rotation of the structural blocks (maerolithons) in the Mežica deposits. It can hypothetically be connected with strike slip along the Periadriatic lineament and is probably the result of the transpressive effect. The relation of the structural blocks in the deposits could be, at least in certain sense, connected with the epigenesis and oxidation of the lead and zinc ores.
