Abstract

Late Paleozoic basement of the Karavanke Alps continues below the Sava valley towards Log on the opposite side of the river, where it is overlain by the Triassic sequence of the Julian Alps. There two outcrops of Upper Carboniferous beds of gshelian stage and Lower Permian Trogkofel formation occur. The latter shows both carbonate and clastic development. Among other fossils Schubertella paramelonica alpina n. subsp. is described from the Trogkofel limestone.
