Abstract

Detailed geological mapping as well as stratimetric measurement and sedimentological investigations have been performed in the Suha Krajina area. On the basis of facies analysis of several cross-sections in the considered area the lithostratigraphic and biostratigraphic subdivision of the Lower Jurassic stratigraphic sequence has been carried out. Lying without any discordance upon the Main dolomite (Hauptdolomit) and being slightly discordantly overlain by the Laze formation (Hočevje group), the considered stratigraphic interval consists exclusively of carbonate rocks. The succession of carbonate rocks lying between the Main dolomite and Laze formation has been designated as Podbukovje formation. The formation consists of 5 lithostratigraphic members and two biozones belonging to the Liassic.
