Abstract

Considered is the find of tooth of the Middle Miocene shark of species Carcharocles megalodon from Central Slovenia. The teeth of this kind are relatively rare here, and they occur mainly in Badenian, and some also in older Oligocene and Lower Miocene beds. The individual from the surroundings of Trbovlje is extraordinary for the fact that it is the only one preserved in biocalcarenite. Discussed is also the erroneous use of generic name of the described species of shark, and the geographic distribution of its finds in Slovenia.
