Abstract

The klippe of Šmihel rests upon the Eocene flysch of the Pivka basin between Nanos Mount and Postojna. It is formed of two thrust-sheets; the lower one is composed of Senonian limestone, while the upper unit consists of dolomite similar to the Lower Jurassic dolomite from the northern margin of the Pivka basin. The general conclusion is, that the Šmihel klippe is a detached part of the Hrušica nappe which has escaped erosion. The resulting structure corresponds to the geological relations along the Southern margin of Hrušica.
