Abstract

In the last two years explorations have been done to prove the Southern extension of the uranium ore deposit at Žirovski vrh. Drilling works were planned on the recognition that the origin of ores occurring in reduced Val Gardena sandstone, which is gray in colour, depends on the adjacent oxidized zones of brownish gray sandstone belonging to the same stratigraphic unit. Geologic prospection based on principle of the geochemical cell was checked by seven boreholes from the surface. Five of them cut the ore bodies as it was indicated and two other holes penetrated their marginal parts. There the extent of the ore deposit increased by two thousand metres and its tonnage for fifty percent. Thus the new exploration concept appears to be fairly useful in the future.
