Instructions for contributors
GEOLOGIJA publishes research and professional papers covering all aspects of geology and related sciences. The journal is issued from 2000 on twice a year in an extent of 30 authorial sheets (240 printed pages) All contributions are reviewed by Slovenian or foreign experts from the field treated by the paper. Authors are obliged to take into account their written reviews, and complete accordingly the contribution, if necessary.
Authorship: Authors are responsible for the originality of data, and especially for opinions, ideas, conclusions and the cited references. By publishing in Geologija, they are in addition obliged not to publish the same contribution elsewhere.
Language: Papers may be written in Slovenian or English, and all must contain an abstract in Slovenian and in English. The translation is at care of the authors.
Kinds of contributions:
Original scientific article
An original scientific article is only the first publication of original research results in such a form that the research could be repeated and the findings verified. As a rule it should be organized according to the IMRAD scheme (Introduction, Methods, Results, And Discussion).
Review scientific article
A review scientific article is a review of the latest works on a given field, of works of an individual researcher, or of a research group with the aim of summarizing, analyzing, evaluating or synthesizing the already published informations. It contains new syntheses that include also results of the author's own research.
Professional article
A professional article is a presentation of already known material with emphasis on the use of results of original research and on the propagation of knowledge.
Discussion and polemics
A contribution in which the author evaluates or demonstrates the correctness of a contribution that was published in Geologija, or in which he/she competently polemizes with te author.
Book review
A contribution in which the contents of a book from the field of geology are presented.
Format of contribution: The manuscript should be written on A4 size pages with double spacing to allow enough space for corrections and comments of reviewers. The contribution should be preferrably edited on a Microsoft Word word processor. As a rule contributions should not be longer than 25 A4 size pages comprising also figures, tables and plates. Longer contributions can be submitted only exceptionally after a previous agreement with the Editor.
Contributions should be submitted to the Editorial Board in a hard copy inlcuding all figures and tables, and in an identical copy in electronic form according to the following system:
– Title of contribution (also in foreign language)
– Author/s
– Key words
– Abstract
– Text
– References
– Figures, tables and plates
Titles of contributions should be short, as a rule not longer than 12 words. In addition to their full given name and surname the authors should indicate also their address and electronic mail address. Tables of contents with normal sized contributions are not published, and also footnotes are discouraged.
Referencing: References should contain as a rule only printed sources. Manuscript sources could be cited only exceptionally with the information on where they are available. The references cited in the text should be given in the reference list and vice versa. In the text only the surname of the author(s) with initial of the name should be cited, followed in parentheses by the year of publication and, if necessary, also the page. When citing a publication by two authors, in the text both authors' surnames should be given (e.g. Pleničar & Buser, 1967), and in case of three and more authors only the first author's surname followed by et al. and the year (e.g. Mlakar et al., 1992). The reference list should be arranged in alphabetical order of first authors. Names of fossils (genus and species) should be italicised. Authors' names in citing fossils should be written in normal type, e.g. Apricardia pachiniana Sirna.

Figures, Tables and Plates: Figures (illustrations and photographs), tables and plates should be numbered consecutively and marked as fig. 1, fig. 2. etc. They should be produced with a suitable computer program (MS Excel, Word, CorelDraw the like), and submitted digitally in the TIFF, JPG or EPS format with 300 dpi resolution. Color figures could be published only exceptionally, and in prior arrangement with the Editor. The 172 x 259 mm journal page format must be obligatorily considered. According to the decision of Editorial Board from 2008 on the journal is being printed in two columns on an A4 page size. Figures on folding leafs of sizes larger than the mentioned GEOLOGIJA page size will not be printed, but figures larger or longer than that may be printed on two pages (on left and on right page) with a cut inbetween. Figures shall be marked by numbers. In the text each figure should be mentioned in the proper numerical order. Permissions for publishing pictorial material from other journals, publications and books should be arranged by the authors. Plates should be prepared in the journal's page size format.
Captions to figures, tables and plates, written in both languages, are supplied by author on separate pages and listed one below the other. Please, do not write captions in the text of the contribution. If possible, captions should be concise.
Proofreading: Page proofs should be read by the authors, but they ought to correct only printing errors. Shorter additions or modifications are possible only at the author's expense.
Submitting of contributions: Editorial board is accepting the contributions to 1st March for the first issue, and to 1st September for the second issue of the year, and guarantees to publish them in the given year, provided they consider the reviewers' observations.
